Bawumia Criticises Mahama Government's Unfulfilled Promises at NPP Conference

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says the Mahama administration has failed to deliver on key promises including the 24-hour economy jobs, as NPP holds its national elections in Kumasi.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that the Mahama administration is struggling to fulfil many of its lofty promises, particularly regarding the 24-hour economy policy. He noted that nearly two years after taking office, the government has not implemented the promised 1:3:3 shift structure that was supposed to create jobs for the youth. At the NPP conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, Bawumia emphasized that the youth are searching for jobs under the flagship policy but have not seen tangible results. He described the current moment as the beginning of a glorious chapter for the NPP as it prepares for the 2028 general elections by electing new national executives. Bawumia urged party members to accept election results in good faith and called for unity to reorganise the party ahead of the next election cycle. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin echoed these sentiments, urging the NPP and Minority to hold the government accountable without fear of arrest or intimidation. He stressed that the NPP has a duty to question government decisions and highlight shortcomings. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, in a video message at the same event, appealed to Ghanaians to support the NPP, stating that the party is needed to lead Ghana to prosperity and transformation. He called for careful selection of leaders who can regain public confidence. Former President Nana Akufo-Addo also expressed confidence in the NPP's prospects, stating that with God's guidance, the party would win the 2028 elections and return Dr Bawumia to power. The NPP's National Delegates Congress in Kumasi included proposed constitutional amendments for consideration, though specific details were not disclosed. Bawumia reiterated concerns about business struggles despite the stability of the Ghanaian cedi, linking them to government policies. He also commented on recent developments such as the La Beach demolition and the release of Baffour Awuah from EOCO custody, asserting his integrity. The party emphasized its commitment to accountability and called for transparent governance. The NPP conference in Kumasi served as a platform to mobilise support, reaffirm its vision, and prepare for the upcoming electoral process. The event highlighted internal party dynamics and the resolve to challenge the current administration's performance.
