Vice President Bawumia says NPP will hold the Mahama administration accountable for broken promises and economic hardship facing Ghanaians.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a sharp critique of the Mahama administration, accusing it of destroying businesses while promising jobs. Speaking at the NPP's National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2024, Bawumia questioned how a government that pledged to create jobs could be dismantling existing enterprises. He highlighted the contradiction between the administration's promises and the current economic struggles of Ghanaians, stating that despite cedi stability, businesses continue to suffer and living costs remain high. Bawumia further condemned the government's failure to implement its 24-hour economy policy with the promised 1:3:3 shift, noting that nearly two years after taking office, no tangible job creation has materialised. He declared that October 3 marks the beginning of a 'glorious chapter' for the NPP as it prepares for the 2028 elections through internal party elections. Bawumia urged party members to accept election outcomes in good faith and called for unity to rebuild the party structure ahead of the next general election. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin echoed these sentiments, urging the NPP and opposition to boldly hold the government accountable without fear of arrest or intimidation, asserting that the party has a duty to demand transparency. Former President John Akufo-Addo, in a video message, appealed to Ghanaians to entrust the NPP with leadership to restore prosperity, emphasizing that true sovereignty lies with the people. He called for careful selection of new national executives who can regain public confidence. The conference also featured proposed constitutional amendments for party governance and reaffirmed the NPP's resolve to pursue accountability despite criticism. Businesses remain strained despite monetary stability, a point Bawumia reiterated to underscore the urgency of economic reforms.
