Bawumia Condemns NDC as Government Fails to Deliver on Key Promises

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia denounced the NDC administration at the NPP National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, citing unmet promises on jobs, electricity tariffs, the Women’s Development Bank, and the 24-hour economy.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP 2028 presidential candidate, delivered a sharp critique of the NDC government during the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi. He described nearly two years of NDC rule as a 'litany of failed and scam promises' that have left Ghanaians disappointed. Addressing thousands of party delegates, Bawumia stressed the opposition’s duty to hold the government accountable, noting that critical public questions remain unanswered.
He specifically condemned the NDC’s flagship 24-hour economy policy, which had pledged one job with three shifts for three people (1-3-3). 'The promised jobs have not materialised,' he said, adding that the initiative has instead resulted in '24-hour demolition of buildings' for markets the NDC cannot explain. The scheme, once celebrated as a youth employment breakthrough, is now viewed as a broken promise.
Bawumia also highlighted the stalled Women’s Development Bank, which was meant to support market women but remains non-operational. 'Almost two years on, that bank has not opened its doors to a single market woman,' he stated. On electricity costs, he pointed to a sharp increase in tariffs despite NDC assurances of reductions, crippling households and small businesses. 'Barber shops, hair salons, bakeries and young enterprises are struggling as sales are swallowed by rising utility bills,' he said.
The cedi’s relative stability, he argued, has been the government’s only lifeline, largely due to the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme initiated in 2021 on his recommendation. 'This policy shielded the economy from global shocks and eased inflation, yet key officials once opposed it,' Bawumia noted. He lamented the abandonment of other NPP-era programmes, including Agenda 111 for district hospitals and Free SHS improvements. 'Our healthcare intervention stalled, leaving graduates unemployed and students without promised meals,' he added.
Galamsey pollution has worsened under the NDC, contrary to promises to clear water bodies, and cocoa farmer price guarantees of GHC 6,500 have become a 'scam'. Teacher and nurse postings, licensure exam cancellations, and Menzgold compensation claims also remain unfulfilled. 'Promises made to farmers, educators and the vulnerable have been reduced to slogans,' Bawumia said.
The conference served as a platform for Bawumia to reaffirm his vision for post-2028 governance. Delegates were urged to elect leaders with proven track records, not merely eloquent speakers. Former President Kufuor and other NPP figures called for unity to reclaim power. While no public event was announced, the party’s momentum continues to build ahead of future elections.
