Afenyo-Markin rallies NPP delegates as party eyes 2028 victory

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin urges unity at NPP conference in Kumasi, pledging the party will return to power in 2028.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin addressed delegates at the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, urging them to unite as the party prepares for the 2028 general election. He acknowledged the pain of the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 election, describing it as a wound that had affected members in markets, churches and mosques. Some supporters had stopped wearing party colours and lost confidence in the party’s ability to return to power. Afenyo-Markin told the gathering that the conference was part of efforts to complete constitutional amendments and reorganise the party’s structures ahead of the next election. He said the NPP had two main tasks: finalising proposed constitutional changes and strengthening its internal organisation. The Minority Leader called on delegates and party members to back the party’s presidential candidate and the National Council in ensuring parliamentary candidates are fielded in all 276 constituencies. He stressed that collective effort would be crucial to the party’s preparations for the 2028 election. The conference, he said, was a platform to heal divisions and rebuild the NPP’s foundations. He urged members to support the presidential candidate and the National Council in their work to secure candidates across all constituencies. Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence that the party would prevail in 2028 through unity and faith. He said the Lord God was with the party as it worked to overcome past setbacks. The Minority Leader described the conference as a critical step in the party’s reorganisation process. He said the party needed to heal wounds and rebuild its structures before the next election. Delegates were urged to support the presidential candidate and the National Council in their efforts to field candidates in all constituencies. The NPP’s focus, he said, must be on healing and rebuilding ahead of 2028. The conference was part of broader attempts to complete constitutional reforms and strengthen party structures. Afenyo-Markin said the party would prevail in 2028 through collective action and faith.
