NPP Women’s Organiser Hopeful Vows To Give Pepper Spray To Every Ghanaian Woman
Hawa Koomson says she will make pepper spray freely available to all women if she wins the NPP Women’s Organiser election.
Former MP for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson, has pledged to supply pepper spray to every woman in Ghana should she be elected NPP Women’s Organiser.
Speaking to a women’s group, she questioned why the safety device is viewed negatively locally when it is routinely carried in other countries.
“Abroad, pepper spray is handed out freely and carried in bags everywhere. In Ghana, the same act is taken as a sign of aggression,” she said.
Koomson recalled an incident at Ablekuma North where pepper spray had saved her life, stating that without it she might have died.
She argued that practical tools such as pepper spray are essential for women’s personal safety.
The aspirant also referenced a reported Uber incident in which a rider could have been harmed, using the case to highlight the need for safety measures.
Beyond distribution, she promised to train women in confidence and courage while maintaining respect for others.
“Courage does not equal rudeness,” she said, adding that bravery can be exercised without disrespect.
Her platform seeks to empower women through tangible protection and skill development as she courts support for the party position.
The election for the NPP Women’s Organiser role will be decided at the party’s upcoming congress.
