NDC delegates walked out of the NPP conference in Kumasi, citing poor timing, as party officials expressed disappointment.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) representatives withdrew from the New Patriotic Party's delegate conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, after the event commenced late. Former Member of Parliament for Lawra, Anthony Karbo, who served as the event's master of ceremonies, voiced his disappointment, stating that the NDC's absence was unexpected and that they appreciated the invitation despite the delay. Karbo emphasized that the party never anticipated the NDC would attend, noting that they had made an attempt to participate but lacked the patience to wait for the programme to begin.

The conference, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, was part of the NPP's National Delegates Congress, where delegates would elect new national executives and consider proposed constitutional amendments. The timing of the event became a point of contention, with Karbo suggesting that the NDC's decision reflected poorly on their commitment to dialogue. Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, urged NPP delegates to avoid dismissing all sitting national executives solely due to the party's 2024 electoral defeat. He argued that the loss should not be attributed to every member of the current leadership, highlighting the need for internal reflection rather than blanket condemnation.

Oppong Nkrumah stressed that candidates seeking re-election possessed the capacity to contribute to the party's preparation for the 2028 general election, calling for delegates to assess individual capabilities rather than treat the 2024 outcome as a judgment on the entire executive. The congress also featured discussions on constitutional amendments aimed at strengthening the party's organisational structure, with Chairman of the Amendment Committee underscoring their necessity for future electoral success. The NPP's electoral setbacks and the path forward remained central themes throughout the gathering.
