NPP elects new national officers at delegates conference in Kumasi

NPP delegates in Kumasi have elected new national executives ahead of 2028 elections. Here are the winners and key moments.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has restocked its national leadership team after a delegates conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. More than 7,000 party delegates voted to choose nine officials who will steer the party into the 2028 general elections.
John Boadu emerged as the new National Chairman of the NPP, while Titus Glover was elected National Organiser. Both candidates were confirmed shortly after voting concluded. Justin Kodua Frimpong secured the position of General Secretary, and Hawa Koomson was chosen to lead the party’s National Women’s Organiser role.
The elections were conducted under a tight schedule, with results announced within minutes of each position being declared. The process drew widespread attention across the country, particularly from party supporters who see the new team as a blend of experience and renewal.
During the conference, a billboard structure suffered structural failure, causing four vehicles to be damaged after part of the signage collapsed. No injuries were reported, but the incident prompted safety reviews among event organizers.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia made a public comment nearly ten hours prior, noting that despite two years of promises, the government’s Women’s Development Bank had yet to admit any market woman as a client. His statement was made in reference to broader concerns about access to financial services for informal sector players.
Napo, a senior party figure, addressed the gathering by emphasizing the importance of collective wisdom in guiding the party’s future. He urged delegates to remain committed to grassroots engagement as the NPP prepares for the next election cycle.
The opposition Party of the National Convention (PNC) issued a statement criticizing the NPP’s decision to appoint its flagbearer as the party leader, arguing that this centralises power and undermines internal democracy.
The NDC also responded, with its spokesperson likening the current state of public infrastructure projects to "24-hour demolitions," suggesting that development efforts are being mismanaged.
The newly elected national executives are expected to assume office immediately, with plans to outline a revised campaign strategy in the coming weeks. Their first major engagement will be a national rally scheduled for November 15 in Accra, aimed at mobilising support ahead of the 2028 elections.
No official date has been set for the swearing-in ceremony of the new officers, but party insiders indicate it will occur within the next two weeks. The NPP has confirmed that all financial and administrative transitions will be handled in accordance with existing constitutional guidelines.
