NPP delayed conference start in Kumasi as delegates arrive late
Party says only a third of delegates present would trigger conference start.
The New Patriotic Party's national delegates conference in Kumasi was postponed because most delegates had not yet arrived at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey confirmed the delay on Saturday, October 3, stating the gathering would commence only when sufficient numbers were on site. He noted that beginning with one‑third of the expected attendance would be enough to proceed. When questioned about the cause of the tardiness, he said he could not pinpoint a specific reason, adding that delegates were simply at their various locations. Buttey dismissed suggestions that ongoing candidate‑delegate meetings were responsible, calling such claims routine and not new. A total of 7,163 delegates were slated to attend the event, which is set to first address proposed constitutional amendments before moving to the election of national officers.
