Former President Kufuor Urges NPP To Lead Ghana To Prosperity

Former President John Kufuor called for NPP leadership to drive Ghana's transformation during the party's conference in Kumasi on October 3.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to steer Ghana toward prosperity and transformation. Speaking via video message at the party's conference in Kumasi on October 3, he stressed that Ghanaians are yearning for the NPP to lead the nation's progress. He highlighted the need to select new national executives through careful examination of leadership qualities that can restore public confidence. Kufuor noted that true sovereignty lies with the people and called for respect for their mandate.
The conference, held in Kumasi, focused on electing new party leaders and adopting constitutional amendments. Delegates gathered to choose the next set of national executives, with the party emphasizing that its flagbearer serves as opposition leader when out of government and transitions to president when in power. The event featured a booming market for NPP merchandise across Kumasi.
Chairman of the Amendment Committee stated that the proposed constitutional changes are critical to restructuring the party's organization. The NPP has also proposed amendments for consideration at the congress. Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in a separate message, expressed confidence in the party's prospects, stating that with divine guidance, they would win the 2028 elections and elect Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as president.
The conference proceeded amid mixed reactions. Some NDC representatives boycotted the event due to its late commencement, while NPP's Oppong Nkrumah urged delegates not to dismiss all current executives following the 2024 election defeat. Parliament clarified that political opponents should not be treated as enemies, stressing that past excesses cannot justify current ones, particularly regarding the arrest of Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah. The court had previously granted him GHS10 million bail with two sureties.
