National Theatre seeks corporate investment in Ghana’s performing arts

National Theatre Executive Director urges corporate Ghana to fund arts for jobs, culture and industry growth.
The Executive Director of the National Theatre of Ghana, Henry Herbert Malm, has appealed to corporate institutions to channel resources into the performing arts. He argues that such investment will safeguard cultural heritage, generate employment and open commercial avenues within the creative sector.
Mr Malm made the call during a recent stakeholder engagement in Accra, where he highlighted the economic and social benefits that a vibrant performing arts scene can deliver. He noted that sustained corporate support is essential for nurturing talent, upgrading infrastructure and enabling Ghanaian artists to compete on the global stage.
Industry observers say the appeal comes at a time when the creative economy faces funding gaps despite its potential to contribute significantly to national development. The National Theatre, which hosts a wide range of productions from drama to dance, has long relied on sporadic donations and limited state funding to maintain its operations.
If companies respond positively, the initiative could lead to the launch of new training programmes, expanded stage productions and partnerships that boost ticket sales and ancillary revenues. Stakeholders are expected to discuss concrete investment frameworks in upcoming meetings scheduled for the next quarter.
The call underscores a broader push to integrate cultural industries into Ghana’s development agenda, positioning the arts as a driver of sustainable growth.
