NPP Delegates Convene in Kumasi for 2026 National Conference

Over 7,000 party delegates gather at Baba Yara Sports Stadium for constitutional review and officer elections.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is convening its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, marking a pivotal moment in its internal democratic process ahead of the 2028 general elections. More than 7,000 delegates from across Ghana will participate in two phases, focusing on proposed constitutional amendments and the election of national party officers. The event underscores the party’s structured preparation for power renewal, with the Ashanti Region contributing the largest delegation of 1,122 members, followed by Greater Accra (773) and Eastern (732). The Savannah Region sends the fewest delegates at 184, reflecting regional distribution within the party’s grassroots network.
While the congress serves as a platform for policy refinement and leadership selection, it has also become a stage for public political positioning. Discussions around potential candidates for national chairmanship, including Boakye Agyarko and John Boadu, have drawn significant attention, with polls indicating Boadu leading at 48%. The General Secretary race features four aspirants under public scrutiny. Concurrently, commentary from party figures such as Dr Asah Asante and Mussah Dankwah highlights internal dynamics shaping the election narrative.
The gathering reflects broader political strategy within the NPP as it consolidates structures for future electoral engagement. With regional representation and constitutional deliberations at the core, the conference will influence the party’s direction in the lead-up to national elections. No public attendance has been announced, and the event remains strictly internal to party delegates.
