President Mahama hosted Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev to discuss AU-UN cooperation and prepare for 2027 multilateral roles.

President John Dramani Mahama hosted Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev at the Presidency to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed the meeting formed part of Ghana's diplomatic strategy ahead of major international roles both nations will assume in 2027.

President Mahama used the audience to outline his vision for stronger coordination between the African Union and United Nations, particularly regarding conflict resolution and peace operations. He emphasized the need for effective collaboration to address crises and create opportunities for citizens across Africa and beyond.

A key focus was UN Security Council Resolution 2719, which establishes frameworks for enhanced partnership between the AU and UN in financing and supporting peacekeeping missions. Mahama stressed that seamless cooperation between these institutions is essential for maintaining international peace and security.

The discussions also covered the recently signed Visa Waiver Agreement between Ghana and Kyrgyzstan, which will simplify travel and strengthen people-to-people connections. Both sides reviewed opportunities for collaboration in the mining sector and strategies to boost investment flows between the countries.

Ablakwa revealed that President Mahama expressed gratitude to Kyrgyzstan for supporting Ghana's landmark UN initiative seeking international recognition of trafficking and enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity. This support underscores growing solidarity between the nations at the multilateral level.

Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Minister conveyed a special message from President Sadyr Japarov, confirming his acceptance of an invitation to attend Ghana's 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations in March 2027. This will mark another high-level engagement between the two countries.

The meeting reflects Ghana's broader strategy to diversify diplomatic partnerships while preparing for its chairmanship of the African Union in January 2027. For Kyrgyzstan, its newly secured non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council offers a platform to deepen global engagement on peace and security matters.

Both leaders affirmed their commitment to transforming diplomatic relations into tangible benefits for their citizens through enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, and multilateral institutions.
