Five-member search committee to find new Black Stars coach after ministry-GFA talks

Sports Ministry and Ghana FA agree to set up a five-person panel to recommend a new Black Stars coach, with a report due October 9 2026.
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association have agreed to form a five-member Technical Search Committee to find a successor for the Black Stars head coach. The committee will be required to submit its recommendation by October 9 2026, following a meeting held on Friday to discuss the recent dip in performance by Ghana’s national teams. In a joint statement the ministry highlighted the need for decisive action, greater accountability and a stronger domestic pathway to restore public confidence in the sport.
The statement also noted that the public’s continued support for Ghanaian football must be matched by sustained institutional effort. While the committee’s membership was not disclosed, its mandate will include scouting and evaluating potential candidates for the senior national team role. The ministry and GFA have further agreed that the new coach must reside in Ghana and regularly monitor the domestic league to ensure alignment with local football development.
In addition to the coach search, the two bodies committed to restructuring youth development. A new technical head will oversee the U15, U17 and U20 pathways, each with a dedicated technical team, while competition arrangements will be adjusted to provide clearer progression routes for players. Existing U18 and U19 competitions will be paused after current seasons conclude to facilitate the transition.
The GFA Technical Directorate will collaborate with the National Schools and Grassroots Sports programme and football academies to reinforce league development and player progression. A Public Interest Committee will be established to supervise the implementation of these reforms, though its membership has not yet been revealed. The Technical Hub is also slated to be moved to the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram, forming part of a broader roadmap to formalise the ministry‑GFA partnership through a FIFA‑standard cooperation agreement.
