Hawa Koomson says only she can restore NPP to power, urging women to vote for her on October 3.

Hawa Koomson, a contender for the New Patriotic Party’s Women’s Organiser position, told a gathering of party women that her time in both government and opposition has shown her the hardships of being out of power. Speaking ahead of the internal election set for October 3, she warned that the current opposition status leaves the party looking miserable and argued that only someone who has experienced both sides can guide a return to authority. “I have tasted power and opposition, and I do not recommend opposition,” she said, urging members to see the party’s present situation as a call to action.

Koomson questioned whether the NPP was comfortable with its current standing and pressed the women to rally behind her candidacy. She added a personal pledge, saying, “I beg you, glorify me on October 3, and I will also glorify you,” framing the vote as a mutual promise of support. Her message centred on the need for the party to regain power and for women to back a leader who understands both the privileges and the challenges of political exclusion.

The election will determine the next National Women’s Organiser, a role Koomson says she is uniquely prepared for given her dual experience. While other aspirants have filed, she remains focused on securing the mandate to drive the party’s resurgence. No official date beyond October 3 has been announced for the vote, and no additional public event beyond the internal party meeting has been disclosed.
