Germany commits $132 million to boost youth training and establish a dedicated skills university in Ghana, targeting unemployed graduates and enhancing workplace capacity.

Germany has pledged $132 million to strengthen skills development and workplace training for young Ghanaians. Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, Minister of State at the Presidency for Special Presidential Initiatives, revealed the support during an appearance on JoyNews' The Pulse. The funding will recruit and place skilled youth in employment settings where they can gain hands-on experience while receiving monthly stipends. This arrangement allows participants to improve their abilities without financial strain on employers, addressing long-standing gaps between technical training and job availability.

Fifty million dollars of the package will finance the construction of Ghana's first university focused exclusively on skill development. The initiative, born from bilateral discussions in Germany, forms part of broader efforts to connect young people with meaningful economic opportunities. Companies hosting trainees may retain those who demonstrate value, while others will still benefit from enhanced skills that support independent entrepreneurship.

The programme targets recent trainees who already possess foundational abilities, directing them toward sectors matching their capacities. Monthly financial support ensures consistent engagement and skill refinement during workplace placements. Though specific launch details remain undisclosed, the partnership marks a significant step in Ghana's strategy to reduce youth unemployment through structured capacity building.
