Bagbin Calls for Unity in Legal Profession, Warns Against Fractured Practice

Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, cautioned professionals in the legal sector against allowing rivalry to overshadow collaborative purpose.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin issued a direct warning to Ghana’s legal community, condemning tendencies toward institutional division that undermine service delivery. Appearing before the Ghana Law Society (GLS) and Ghana Bar Association (GBA) on September 30, he asserted that professional pluralism must remain a unifying force, not a source of institutional fracture. Bagbin emphasized that Ghana’s legal practitioners owe a collective duty to uphold justice with shared responsibility, rejecting any movement toward siloed practice. He noted that fragmentation risks weakening public trust and stalling progress in critical legislation. The Speaker has long positioned himself as a champion of legal sector cohesion, having previously facilitated dialogues among legal bodies on reforms. He concluded by urging institutions to prioritize national interest through sustained cooperation for impactful governance.
