Former Ghanaian President John Kufuor has expressed disappointment that the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) dismissed Tullow Oil’s appeal against a corporate income‑tax assessment by the Ghana Revenue Authority, noting the Tribunal’s decision undermines investor confidence. He urged the government to engage directly with legitimate investors in the Jubilee and West Cap coast fields, arguing that Ghana must safeguard its natural resources for the benefit of all citizens.
Speaking at a book launch and graduation ceremony of the University of Ghana Business School in Accra, Kufuor highlighted the urgency for Parliament to pass the Petroleum Equity and Revenue Sharing Agreement (PETRASA) Bill. He stressed that this legislation will protect the country’s petroleum and minerals, ensuring future generations can unlock their full potential.
The former president’s remarks come as Tullow prepares to explore next steps after further consultation with the Ghanaian Government, signaling a potential legal and diplomatic escalation.
Kufuor lauded Ghana’s democratic progress over the past 32 years, noting that the nation has moved from military rule to a stable, growing economy that now offers diverse opportunities for its people.
