Prof Prempeh Calls For Public Review Of Draft Constitutional Reform Bills
Prof Prempeh urges government to publish draft constitutional reform bills for public review and stakeholder input.
The Executive Director of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, has urged the government to make draft bills on proposed constitutional reforms available for public review before they are passed.
Speaking at a stakeholder dialogue on the Constitutional Reform Implementation Process, organised by the Citizens’ Platform on Constitutional Reform with support from the British High Commission, he warned that rushing such reforms without wide consultation could waste public resources and undermine legitimacy. He stressed that early, inclusive consensus-building is essential to ensure reforms enjoy broad acceptance.
Prof Prempeh highlighted the role of political parties, civil society organisations and other key stakeholders in shaping the reform agenda. His call comes as Ghana seeks to deepen its democratic governance and institutional frameworks through structured constitutional dialogue.
