Dr Mahamudu Bawumia pledges to transform La beachfront into a world-class tourism hub after demolition exercise.

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his vision of turning the La beachfront into a premier tourist and economic enclave following the recent National Security demolition exercise.

Speaking after the exercise, Bawumia emphasized that the current state of the beachfront does not meet the standards required for a modern tourist destination. He called for a comprehensive redesign to create a functional, attractive space that supports local operators and enhances economic activity.

Bawumia stated that the government would work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the redeveloped area provides the necessary infrastructure and regulatory support for businesses operating along the beachfront.

The demolition exercise, carried out by National Security, cleared illegal structures that had long obstructed the beachfront, paving the way for a more organized and sustainable development plan.

The NPP flagbearer stressed that the initiative was not only about aesthetics but also about creating opportunities for Ghanaians, particularly those in the La community who depend on the beachfront for their livelihoods.

He assured residents and business owners that their concerns would be addressed in the redesign process, promising that the new layout would facilitate easier access, improved safety, and better facilities for vendors and tourists alike.

Bawumia reaffirmed his commitment to the people of La, stating that the transformation would be a collective effort involving government, local authorities, and the community.

The project is expected to align with broader national efforts to promote Ghana’s coastal tourism and position the country as a competitive destination in the region.

Stakeholders in the tourism and real estate sectors have welcomed the proposal, noting that a well-planned beachfront could significantly boost revenue and create jobs.

However, some environmental advocates have called for sustainable practices to be prioritized to protect the coastal ecosystem while pursuing development.

The redesign plan is still in the consultation phase, with further details to be announced in the coming weeks.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Dankwa has also expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to drive economic growth and improve urban planning in the Greater Accra Region.

The La beachfront, once a neglected space, is now seen as a strategic asset in Ghana’s tourism master plan, with the potential to attract both local and international visitors.

The next phase involves detailed planning and collaboration with urban developers to ensure that the redevelopment meets both aesthetic and functional goals.

The project is expected to commence in the next quarter, with phased implementation to minimize disruption to ongoing activities.
