ADDO has opened a dedicated facility to support adolescent mothers and their children in Sandema.

The Adolescent and Child Development Organisation (ADDO) has launched a residential haven in Sandema for adolescent mothers and their children. The centre offers shelter, counselling, vocational training and educational support to young women who become mothers before completing their own schooling. Many of the girls face school dropout, social stigma, economic hardship and isolation when they fall pregnant, forcing them to abandon personal ambitions. ADDO's initiative seeks to break this cycle by providing a safe environment where mothers can continue their education, learn marketable skills and receive childcare assistance. The project was commissioned in partnership with local health workers and community leaders in the Upper East Region. Beneficiaries will live at the centre for up to six months while they complete secondary education or vocational courses. ADDO hopes the model can be replicated in other districts facing similar challenges. No specific date for public opening has been announced yet.
