Telecel Ghana showcased its commitment to deaf inclusion during the 2026 International Week For The Deaf celebrations in Accra.
The event, themed around multilingual inclusive education for deaf learners in tertiary institutions, gathered educators, policymakers and disability advocates to discuss practical accessibility solutions.
Mercy Akude, Telecel’s General Manager for Commercial Operations, highlighted the company's long-standing partnership with the Ghana National Association of the Deaf since 2017.
She noted Telecel’s recruitment of 10 deaf professionals and discounted communication services for over 3,500 Deaf community members through initiatives like Telecel Play App and *494#.
Akude stressed that inclusion requires creating opportunities for full societal participation, citing the SuperCare Initiative as part of this vision.
The Ministry of Education’s Nana Baffuor Awuah represented the Minister, reaffirming government support for inclusive education strategies.
Telecel reiterated that connectivity must empower marginalized communities through meaningful social inclusion.
The International Week For The Deaf, held at the University of Education, Winneba, features workshops, advocacy sessions and cultural programmes.
It aims to strengthen legislative frameworks and institutional support for deaf education nationwide.
