Star Oil Resumes COMAC Membership Amid Governance Demands

Star Oil Ghana Limited has rejoined COMAC after an 11-month suspension citing unfair governance from founding members. CEO Philip Tieku urged constitutional reform to reflect current industry dynamics.
Star Oil Ghana Limited has officially returned to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies following an 11-month suspension. The company reinstated its membership after a board decision prompted by stakeholder consultations and appeals from other members. CEO Philip Tieku confirmed the move in a letter dated October 1, 2026, addressed to COMAC’s CEO.
The company cited evolving industry conditions where founding members no longer represent the sector’s current structure. While acknowledging their historical role, Star Oil argued permanent board seats based solely on founding status distort fair representation. The Chamber’s constitution grants prolonged board dominance to early signatories despite shifting market realities among independent oil firms.
Star Oil positions its return as leverage to demand constitutional amendments ensuring proportional representation. This effort aligns with broader industry calls for modernization following years of governance concerns within COMAC’s leadership framework.
