Suspect Swallows Five SIM Cards After Arrest at Kasoa Police Checkpoint
A 27-year-old man arrested near Kasoa with stolen phones reportedly swallowed five SIM cards to hide evidence. Police are tracing owners.
A 27-year-old Ghanaian man, identified as Awudu Baba, was arrested on September 19 near the Kasoa‑Bawjiase Highway checkpoint for possessing five smartphones believed to be stolen from Awutu Bawjiase. Police found five different phones, including an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Samsung A12, along with five SIM cards in his possession. When officers moved to detain him, the suspect allegedly removed the SIM cards and swallowed them, hoping to hide them from investigators. DCOP Francis Nchor of the Central East Regional Police confirmed the incident and said the phones were recovered during the raid.
The police believe the devices were taken from victims in the Awutu Bawjiase area and are now working to trace the rightful owners. Residents who have lost mobile phones recently are urged to come forward and give details so the items can be returned. So far, Baba remains in police custody while investigators continue to piece together the full story of the theft.
The Command has not announced any public event linked to this case, and no specific date or venue has been set for a court appearance or press briefing.
