Salaga North MP Urges Government to Establish Senior High School

MP Alhassan Mumuni calls for urgent establishment of a senior high school in Salaga North to address education gaps.
The Member of Parliament for Salaga North, Alhassan Mumuni, has urged the government to create a senior high school in his constituency, saying the lack of a second-cycle institution is restricting educational prospects for local youth.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, October 2, Mumuni emphasized that many junior high school graduates cannot continue their studies near home, forcing them to seek distant alternatives.
He recalled an abandoned E-block project that was initiated during former President Mahama’s administration, noting that stalled infrastructure underscores the need for alternative solutions rather than waiting indefinitely for new facilities.
The MP revealed that local chiefs, traditional authorities and other community stakeholders are exploring the possibility of founding a community senior high school, an effort he pledged to back fully.
According to Mumuni, the proposed school could begin operations in existing structures, enrolling students who have been unable to gain admission to current senior high schools.
He highlighted that several facilities already exist within the district and can serve as temporary locations while the initiative is rolled out.
Mumuni appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to endorse the community’s plan and grant the necessary approvals for it to commence.
He confirmed that discussions with the Ministry of Education and senior government officials have taken place, but stressed that prompt action is required to prevent further disruption to students.
The MP reiterated his willingness to collaborate with traditional leaders and other stakeholders to secure the resources and support needed for the school’s establishment.
He argued that a local senior high school would expand access to second-cycle education and alleviate the difficulties faced by students who must travel far for schooling.
Salaga North is located in the Northern Region of Ghana.
