Prof Baiden Urges Expanded Funding for Mfantsipim’s Infrastructure Development
Professor B.K. Baiden calls for stronger stakeholder partnerships to close Mfantsipim School's infrastructure funding gap before rising student numbers strain facilities.
The call came during the 11th MOBA Annual Engagement Series held on Wednesday, September 30, at Ecobank Ghana’s Head Office. Professor Baiden warned that the school’s growing student population risks outpacing its current physical capacity if funding stays limited. He argued that infrastructure planning must anticipate both today’s classroom needs and tomorrow’s generations of learners. Development of Mfantsipim began in 1931 when the school moved to Kwabotwe Hill, where a planned campus included classrooms, boarding, a library, ICT labs and staff quarters. Earlier, the Methodist Church financed the school’s build, while the 1961 Education Act expanded government’s role. Though the Old Boys Association has long supported the school, Baiden said more financial channels—such as private sector alliances and crowd‑sourced funds—are needed now to avoid future crunches.
