Samuel Jinapor demands a parliamentary probe after French police seized nearly four tonnes of cocaine shipped from Ghana to France.

Parliament must launch a bipartisan inquiry into how 3.9 tonnes of cocaine could leave Ghana unnoticed, according to former minister Samuel Jinapor.

The call follows a French police seizure of the drugs in Dunkirk on September 10, 2026, which officials traced back to a container shipped from Ghana. Jinapor said the emergency parliamentary sitting on September 29 offered a chance to review the circumstances, but Speaker Alban Bagbin rejected the motion on procedural grounds.

He argues the investigation should focus on port clearance processes, container scanning and the capacity of state agencies to detect narcotics shipments. The probe, he says, would not decide guilt in ongoing court cases but would examine systemic weaknesses.

The shipment was only disclosed after French authorities acted, raising questions about surveillance and enforcement. Jinapor insists Ghanaians deserve clarity on how such a large consignment slipped through undetected.

No date has been set for renewed parliamentary action on the matter.
