NPP Kicks Off National Officer Elections with 46 Candidates in Kumasi

Over 7,000 delegates gather at Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the party votes for nine top positions.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened voting for its national executive committee at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, drawing more than 7,000 delegates. The contest involves nine top posts, and 46 aspirants remain on the final ballot after Salam Mustapha stepped down from the National Youth Organiser slot. The first three vote‑winners will take the titles of First, Second and Third Vice‑Chairperson. Among the hopefuls are John Boadu, Sammy Crabbe, Paul Afoko and Boakye Agyarko for the chairmanship; Kojo Fosu Boadu, George Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah, Richard Ahiagbah and Alhaji Masawudu Osman for vice‑chairship; and a long list of candidates for treasurer, organiser, youth, women, communications and other roles. Notable names include Dr Charles Dwamena, Hajia Ruka Ahmed, Kwame Prempeh and Alfred Kumi Ababio. The Electoral Commission oversees the exercise, which is being run across 31 voting centres set up inside the stadium complex. Delegates will cast their ballots for each position separately, and the results will shape the party’s leadership for the next four years. The outcome will be watched closely as it may influence the NPP’s strategy ahead of the 2024 general election. No official date has been announced for the announcement of the winners, but the party says the process will be completed within the day.
