NPP conference in Kumasi sees NDC delegation exit early

Anthony Karbo expresses disappointment as NDC team leaves the NPP National Delegates Conference in Kumasi before proceedings begin.
Anthony Karbo, former MP for Lawra and master of ceremonies for the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, voiced disappointment over the National Democratic Congress delegation’s early departure. The conference was scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2023, but NDC representatives chose to leave before the programme commenced, citing delays in the start time. Mr Karbo confirmed he was aware of the delegation’s planned attendance and had received notice of their intended solidarity remarks. He noted that while the NPP welcomed the invitation extended to the NDC, it was regrettable that the delegates did not remain for the event. Karbo highlighted that the NDC had accepted the invitation but indicated they could not wait indefinitely to deliver their message. He added that the party appreciated the attempt made by the NDC to honour the invitation despite the outcome. The former MP expressed that the NPP never anticipated the NDC’s presence at the conference. He stated that the party was grateful for the gesture but wished the delegation had exercised more patience. NPP delegates gathered in Kumasi for the event, which attracted notable figures including Vice Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Other activities during the conference included remarks from party officials and a brief address by Dr Bawumia. Three individuals were injured in a stampede that erupted during the conference. Nana B, aspiring Vice Chairman, used the platform to declare his intention to contest the upcoming race. Sammy Crabbe outlined his rationale for aligning with John Boadu within the party structure. Sammy Awuku drew a political analogy comparing the NDC’s approach to opposition politics with the speed of Usain Bolt. NACOC announced the commencement of pre-screening procedures at Kotoka International Airport. Dr Bawumia called for a parliamentary inquiry into drug trafficking concerns affecting the nation. Atta Akyea reacted to recent developments involving Baffour Awuah’s financial settlement with the state. The NPP used the occasion to showcase unity and forward-looking policies. The conference served as a platform for party members to articulate strategies ahead of upcoming elections. The event concluded with a call for continued stakeholder engagement and support.
