Minority Will Pursue Parliament Cocaine Investigations Despite Speaker's Block
Minority Leader says they won't let cocaine probe matter rest after Speaker dismissed motion. Speaker says drugs not in 2022 State of Nation.
The Member of Parliament for Bole, Ato Kwasi Kyei Baffour, has declared that the minority caucus in parliament will move ahead with investigations into alleged cocaine use among MPs, despite the Speaker's recent dismissal of their parliamentary motion to initiate such a probe.
Mr Kyei Baffour explained that while cocaine use was not referenced in the 2022 State of the Nation Address, the conclusion of the ongoing vetting of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA) appointees revealed disturbingly large quantities of the substance seized at a Mile 7 market in the Kejetia area last Tuesday. This discovery has heightened suspicion that drug-related activities may be occurring within parliamentary circles.
The minority believes the Speaker's refusal to allow the motion to proceed obstructs their duty to uphold accountability and transparency in the legislature. They view this as part of a broader concern about illicit drug activities potentially undermining public trust in Ghana's democratic institutions.
The investigation into the Mile 7 market seizure is continuing, and the minority intends to pursue all available legal and parliamentary channels to ensure any misconduct involving controlled substances by public officials is thoroughly examined.
