Manhyia South MP Granted GH¢50m Bail in Ongoing EOCO Investigation

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has been granted GH¢50 million bail with three sureties after reporting to EOCO on October 1.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office has granted Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah bail of GH¢50 million with three sureties after he voluntarily reported to its Accra offices on Thursday, October 1. His appearance followed an arrest warrant from the Accra High Court after EOCO indicated it could not secure his presence for questioning earlier. The MP is under investigation over allegations involving SIC Savings and Loans, including criminal conspiracy, financial loss, money laundering and tax matters. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has denied receiving GH¢2.2 million as legal fees and questioned EOCO’s account of prior efforts to engage him. EOCO maintains its probe is active and urges the public to refrain from drawing conclusions before legal processes conclude. Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged EOCO to broaden its focus beyond opposition figures and pursue financiers of Ghana-linked drug trafficking networks. In a Facebook post on October 1, he accused the agency of disproportionate attention on opposition politicians while neglecting major narcotics operations. He called for investigations to target those who organise and fund drug networks, emphasizing the need to address structural causes. The MP’s case remains under judicial review, with no date set for further hearings.
