Police have detained three men linked to the kidnapping of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu near Yendi, while still seeking the others.

Police in the Northern Region have taken into custody three individuals suspected of kidnapping Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu near Yendi.

The arrests were confirmed in a public statement posted on X by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were apprehended on September 29 at separate points in the Sang area of the Mion District.

According to the Police, the victim was seized on September 25 when four armed men attacked him and his brother at their home.

The abductors later reached out to the victim’s relatives and demanded a ransom of GH¢100,000 for his release.

The victim managed to break free from his captors and was rescued by local farmers in the Sambu community before being taken to a medical facility for treatment.

He later told investigators that he was held at an unknown location under armed guard but succeeded in escaping with the help of the farmers.

The Police report indicates that the victim was able to positively identify all three arrested men from their photographs.

Preliminary inquiries suggest the suspects may be connected to other robbery cases recorded in the surrounding area.

The Police have confirmed that the three detained individuals remain in custody and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.

Efforts are continuing to locate and apprehend the remaining accomplices involved in the incident.
