Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah released on half‑century bail amid ongoing graft probe.

He reported to the Economic and Organized Crime Office on Thursday morning, October 1, after the Accra High Court issued an arrest warrant.

The MP was taken into custody as investigators examine claims of conspiracy, financial loss at SIC Savings and Loans, money‑laundering and tax breaches.

Baffour Awuah denied receiving GH¢2.2 million in legal fees and contested EOCO’s account of prior attempts to secure his appearance.

Three sureties were accepted when the court set a GH¢50 million bail, allowing his release while the case proceeds.

EOCO has stressed that its inquiry remains active and warned against drawing conclusions before the legal process concludes.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo‑Markin used the development to call for intensified action against financiers of drug trafficking networks tied to Ghana.

In a Facebook post on the same day, he questioned the agency’s focus on opposition politicians and urged attention to the broader drug‑trade funding structures.

Public interest in Ghana‑linked narcotics investigations has risen, putting EOCO’s handling of such cases under scrutiny.

The investigation into the MP’s affairs continues, with further hearings expected as authorities build their case.
