President John Mahama directed government to restore pre-tertiary teaching immediately as nationwide strike paralyzes basic education.

President John Mahama has ordered swift government steps to end the teacher strike paralyzing pre-tertiary schools across Ghana. Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed the President received a briefing on the industrial action disrupting basic education nationwide. He stated Mahama directed every necessary action to bring teachers back to classrooms without delay. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized the strike cannot persist given teachers' critical role in national development. The President views educators as highly respected human resources essential to Ghana's future.

Three teacher unions including GNAT and NAGRAT withdrew services, leaving classrooms empty nationwide. Kwakye Ofosu explained a funding data gap between the Accountant-General's Department, Finance Ministry and Ghana Statistical Service must be closed urgently. He noted both the Accountant-General and Finance Minister claim their financial obligations to teachers are fulfilled. The government insists backlog payments remain a priority to resolve the impasse swiftly.

Kwakye Ofosu expressed confidence normal teaching would resume within days once administrative hold-ups clear. He stressed government values teachers' contributions and cannot allow prolonged service withdrawal. The administration seeks immediate engagement to finalize payment processes for affected educators across public basic schools.

No nationwide teacher strike resolution date was confirmed Though the government promises resolution within days ongoing negotiations must address documentation discrepancies before teachers return to their pre-tersariary classrooms nationwide
