Mahama Ayariga Launches Live Broadcast Plan For MMDAs Meetings
Minister of Local Government announces live radio broadcasts of all District Assembly meetings across Ghana.
The Minister of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has unveiled plans to require all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to broadcast their meetings live on local FM stations. The directive forms part of a broader effort to deepen transparency and accountability in local governance.
Speaking at a stakeholder breakfast in Accra on Wednesday, September 30, the minister stressed that Assembly proceedings should be as open as those of Parliament, given that MMDAs serve as local legislative bodies. He explained that public access to these forums would empower citizens to follow decisions that directly affect their communities.
The Ministry also plans to partner with regional broadcasting partners to roll out the live streaming scheme. By leveraging existing FM networks, the initiative seeks to strengthen community engagement and ensure that residents can participate in governance processes in real time.
