Konadu Apraku says he and Akufo-Addo are not enemies

Former NPP aspirant Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku says Nana Akufo-Addo and he are not enemies, though they are not friends.
Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former New Patriotic Party presidential aspirant, disclosed that his decision to contest the party’s 2007 flagbearership race altered his relationship with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Once close collaborators, they now keep their distance but share no hostility. Speaking at the NPP National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, he told Citi News that he cannot label them as friends, yet they are not enemies either. The two worked intensely during Akufo-Addo’s earlier campaign, but after an unsuccessful bid, Apraku entered the 2007 race, creating strain. He explained that both are now busy and have not seen each other frequently. The 2007 Special National Delegates Congress saw seventeen aspirants, including Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyerematen, former Vice-President Aliu Mahama and Yaw Osafo-Maafo. Akufo-Addo secured 1,096 votes (48%), Kyerematen 738 votes (32%), while Apraku obtained only 19 votes (0.8%). The outcome positioned Akufo-Addo as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2008 election. Apraku, who previously managed Akufo-Addo’s campaign, reflected on the episode as a turning point in their professional ties. He remains committed to public service, asserting that Ghana requires decisive leadership capable of navigating tough choices. The former aspirant continues to engage in political discourse, emphasizing the need for strong governance.
