High Court in Accra admits MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah to GH¢10 million bail with two sureties.

The Accra High Court has granted Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, MP for Manhyia South, a GH¢10 million bail package accompanied by two sureties. The ruling was delivered on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, after prosecutors presented their case regarding alleged financial misconduct linked to constituency funds. The court mandated that the sureties be people of means, each required to provide collateral of at least GH¢5 million. Awuah’s legal team, led by lawyer Samuel Kofi Nyame, argued that the bail conditions were necessary to allow him to continue his parliamentary duties without undue detention. The MP expressed relief at the decision, stating he would cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations. The case has drawn significant attention from political watchers in Kumasi, given Awuah’s prominent role in the Ashanti Region’s parliamentary representation. The High Court has scheduled a further hearing for August 15, 2024, to review the progress of the case and determine whether the bail conditions remain appropriate. This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of public officials’ financial conduct across Ghana’s political landscape.
