KMA uncompromising on relocation of traders and garage operators from Abrepo Junction ahead of Suame Interchange construction

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has issued a final notice compelling all traders, garage operators, occupants and businesses at Abrepo Junction and adjacent sections to vacate by October 8 ahead of commencing Phase One of the Suame Interchange construction. The Assembly maintains the directive demands immediate handover of property including existing structures and utility systems within the designated corridor forming part of the Suame Interchange corridor.

Owners operating within the Abrepo corridor have been granted the opportunity to submit objections should they contest relocation requirements. Previously KMA officials engaged affected stakeholders including utility agencies and business owners to explain the necessity of clearing the route for massive infrastructure works across Suame.

PHASE ONE involves constructing a complex three-tier interchange at Suame together with new overpasses at Abrepo and Krofrom junctions and widening both Eastern and Western Bypass roads connecting to Fadama and Nyinaa respectively. The Abrepo section specifically targets relocation activities.

The Assembly emphasised that utility companies including Ghana Water Company Limited and Electricity Company of Ghana will relocate pipelines and power lines within the project zone enabling construction crews to proceed unimpeded.

Permitted utility infrastructure relocation forms part of preparatory arrangements preceding intensified roadworks that precede Phase Two completion targeting October 2026 opening.

Enforcement teams will begin clearing operations on Thursday October 8 initiating demolition of non-compliant structures within the project corridor. The Suame Interchange complex under Phase Two already shows near completion around 87 percent certain close to operational readiness by 2026.

Relocation continues as voluntary compliance proves essential before construction crews commence extensive works under Phase One. NAME_1 confirmed KMA's resolve to commence system path interventions without further delay on October 8 schedule.
