John Boadu wins NPP national chairmanship with 2,888 votes, defeating Boakye Agyarko and Paul Afoko.
John Boadu has been elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing 2,888 votes to defeat Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, who received 2,408 votes, and Paul Afoko. Sammy Crabbe, the fourth contender, withdrew moments before voting and pledged support to Boadu. The election took place during the party’s delegates conference, where Titus Glover was also elected National Organiser and Justin Kodua Frimpong named General Secretary.
Boadu, a veteran party administrator with over 30 years of service, previously held roles including National Youth Treasurer, National Finance Officer, National Youth Organizer, Deputy National Communications Director, and National Organizer. He played a central role in the NPP’s 2016 and 2020 election campaigns, overseeing logistics and strategy that led to historic parliamentary and presidential victories. He also introduced the Pink Sheet Tracking System, enabling rapid collation of results from 38,000 polling stations.
Before his rise to national leadership, Boadu began in grassroots politics as a polling station chairman and agent in the 1996 elections. He later served as a trainer of trainers in Greater Accra and Volta Regions. His leadership during the 2016 internal crisis helped stabilize the party and deliver a narrow win over the NDC.
Internationally, Boadu has represented African political interests, serving as Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Union of Africa and previously leading the Organization of African Liberal Youth. He has engaged with global parties including Germany’s CDU and China’s Communist Party.
At the recent conference, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia urged defeated candidates to unite behind the new administration, stating, "Our task is to build a renewed NPP." Boadu echoed this call, describing his chairmanship as a mission to regroup and prepare the party for power in 2028.
