IDP Foundation Expands Rising Schools Program to Northern Ghana

The Rising Schools Program is set to expand its reach into Northern Ghana through a new partnership between the IDP Foundation and Opportunity International. This collaboration aims to provide sustainable financing options for low-cost private schools in communities where access to quality education remains a challenge.
For many families in the north, private schooling is often too expensive, forcing children to attend overcrowded public schools or drop out entirely. The program’s innovative approach combines community-based savings groups with tailored financial products to help school operators expand classrooms, train teachers, and improve learning outcomes. This model has already shown success in other parts of Ghana, where it has enabled dozens of schools to grow and serve more students sustainably.
With Northern Ghana historically under-served in terms of educational infrastructure, the partnership brings renewed hope to districts like Tamale and its surrounding areas. Stakeholders believe that empowering local school owners with financial tools can spark grassroots development and improve literacy rates across the region.
The expansion plan is already underway, with initial pilot phases targeting 15 schools in the Northern Region. If successful, this could open pathways for thousands of children to access better education without financial strain on families.
