Regulatory agency HeFRA and Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) plan strategic tie-up to enhance healthcare quality and facility operations nationwide.

The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) and Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) have kicked off talks for a strategic partnership to reinforce health service delivery. The discussion unfolded at the GMTF Secretariat in Accra, where both sides mapped out joint actions on infrastructure, equipment handling, facility monitoring, and capacity building.

Registrar Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah led HeFRA’s delegation and praised GMTF’s role as a “game changer," noting that its support reshapes not only equipment access but also how regulators operate. He stressed that merely supplying tools does not guarantee impact; facilities must be equipped to translate resources into patient care.

Dr. Baah pledged HeFRA’s readiness to offer regulatory guidance and technical aid, especially in assessing and monitoring health sites and assets funded by GMTF. He pointed out needs for additional vehicles, computers, and IT gear to fortify HeFRA’s oversight capacity.

The partnership could tighten control over medical devices bought or donated via GMTF programmes, ensuring they are installed, maintained, and used effectively. Such coordination, officials say, would lift accountability and turn health investments into measurable patient benefits.

Adjoa Obuobia Darko‑Opoku, Administrator of GMTF, framed the meeting as part of a broader push to align regulatory frameworks with funding initiatives. Both entities aim to translate resources into stronger outcomes for health facilities and the communities they serve.
