Over one hundred Ghanaian tertiary institutions have lost provisional accreditation due to quality assurance concerns, prompting warnings for students to verify all enrolment claims.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has announced that more than 100 tertiary institutions are no longer recognised as meeting its quality standards.

These institutions had previously been granted only provisional status, but recent audits revealed gaps that failed to meet the Commission’s accreditation criteria.

The Commission stressed that the affected schools cannot legally issue certificates that hold official standing until they satisfy the required benchmarks.

Students and parents have been urged to conduct thorough checks on any school before signing admission forms or accepting issued credentials.

Public universities and other accredited bodies may need to review credit transfer agreements with the affected institutions as a precaution.

Career guidance officers are expected to redirect prospective candidates toward fully recognised alternatives.

No specific date or venue has been set for a follow‑up public forum on the matter, but the Commission indicated that further announcements will follow.
