Colleges of Education instructed by GTEC to start 2026/2027 admissions while awaiting new fees approval.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has covered orders for all tertiary institutions across Ghana to welcome new students into the 2026/2027 academic year beginning right now. This comes despite the Ministry of Education yet to greenlight the fresh fee schedule for the upcoming period.

The Commission issued this instruction through a formal letter sent on September 30, 2026, addressed to the school heads of every college of education in the country. GTEC Director-General Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai made clear that institutions seen delaying the process should restart admissions immediately since approval of the new fees was still in process.

Parents and prospective students in communities from Accra to Tamale preparing for tertiary education now know that admission windows have officially opened. Institutions must use the previously approved 2025/2026 fees until fresh ones get the final sign-off, with potential adjustments after official clearance.

The Commission called on school principals to cooperate fully and not allow administrative holdups to postpone student enrollment. This push aims to keep tertiary enrollment timelines on track across all districts.

No specific public gathering or event of any kind has been announced as part of this rollout. No festival, ceremony, or scheduled public launch accompanies the directive.
