Ghanaian among ten foreign nationals indicted for illegal voting in US elections

DOJ charges Ghanaian resident Joshua Frederick Kofi Edzie with three counts of voting illegally in Minnesota; nine others from nine countries indicted in same case.
A Ghanaian resident of the United States has been charged with three counts of illegal voting in federal court in Minnesota. Joshua Frederick Kofi Edzie, 63, allegedly claimed US citizenship on registration forms and voted in the November 2022 election and the August 11 2026 primary. His indictment appears alongside nine other foreign nationals from nine different nations including Liberia Lithuania Germany Bosnia Brazil Canada and South Africa. The US Justice Department alleges a pattern of non citizens voting in Minnesota contests. Prosecutors say Edzie cast ballots on October 23 2024 and again on August 11 2026 despite lacking citizenship. Federal Magistrate Judge Elsa M Bullard ordered his initial appearance on September 28 2026. The charges stem from US Attorney Ryan Bensing’s office after investigation by Homeland Security Investigations. Federal law could bring up to five years imprisonment for false citizenship claims but only one year for unlawful voting by non citizens. The defendants remain innocent under the law until proven guilty. Minors are exempt from the sentencing maximums.
