Government prolongs diesel subsidy through September and November 2026, sharing cost between state and industry to ease pump prices.

Ghana's Energy Minister announced an extension of the GH¢2-per-litre diesel subsidy for September and November 2026, keeping pump prices from climbing further amid global oil surges. The scheme now draws GH¢1 from the D-Levy reduction and GH¢1 from industry margins, shifting the funding method from previous models. This marks the fourth time the government has stepped in to shield diesel users from imported price shocks, particularly affecting haulage companies and power plants that depend on the fuel. While motorists will still feel relief at the pump, the new arrangement has revived tensions over unpaid subsidies owed to oil marketing firms from the August intervention. The subsidy expires after November, but officials warn that future extensions will require clearer financing pathways if the fiscal burden grows. No replacement measures have been disclosed as the country navigates persistent inflation and foreign exchange pressures.
