GHABA's inaugural national Hair and Beauty Festival showcases talent and promotes professional growth across Ghana.

The Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) has just held its first ever national Hair and Beauty Festival, a landmark event for the country’s beauty sector. The gathering, which took place in Accra, brought together hair stylists, make‑up artists, product vendors, trainers and industry partners from every region. Over several days, attendees took part in workshops, live demonstrations and exhibition booths that highlighted the latest techniques, products and business ideas. The festival’s theme, “Transforming the Beauty Industry Through Skills, Creativity and Enterprise Development,” underscored a push to turn a traditionally informal trade into a recognised career path and source of jobs for young people, especially women.

Industry leaders say Ghana’s beauty market has been expanding fast, driven by rising consumer demand and a growing middle class. Yet, many practitioners have operated without formal training or certification, limiting their ability to compete globally. GHABA’s president warned that without continual skills upgrading, professionals risk being left behind as new technologies and beauty trends emerge. The association aims to fill this gap by offering more training programmes, certification pathways and networking opportunities that connect local talent with international standards.

For ordinary Ghanaians, the festival promises more than just spectacle – it signals a future where beauty services are delivered by well‑trained experts, prices become more transparent, and new jobs are created in the sector. Small business owners who attended said they are hopeful the event will open doors to partnerships, funding and market access that could lift many micro‑enterprises. As the beauty industry continues to grow, stakeholders expect the festival to become an annual fixture that drives innovation and sustainable livelihoods across the nation.
