Germany marks Unity Day in Accra as Ghana- Germany ties edge closer to 70 years

Germany celebrated its national day in Accra, reflecting on reunification and pointing to the coming 70-year diplomatic milestone with Ghana.
Germany observed its National Day in Accra with a ceremony that turned the spotlight on the country’s own journey from split to unity.
The event carried symbolic weight for Ghanaians watching closely as the two nations edge toward a historic milestone. In 2027, Ghana and Germany will celebrate seven decades of diplomatic relations, a bond forged during Ghana’s early years of independence.
German Ambassador Annett Kl Fahnenbruck used the occasion to underscore how Germany’s own reunification in 1990 can inspire fresh collaboration between the two countries.
The ceremony offered a rare moment of reflection on shared history and future potential, highlighting the deepening diplomatic and cultural ties that have grown since Ghana’s independence in 1957.
As both nations prepare for the 2027 anniversary, officials say the partnership will expand beyond ceremonial goodwill to encompass trade, education and security cooperation.
