Freezy Macbones Clinches WBO Africa Light Heavyweight Crown in Lagos

Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, known as Freezy Macbones, wins the WBO Africa title after a points victory over Nigeria’s Godday Appah.
Seth Gyimah, a 37‑year‑old Ghanaian pugilist popularly called Freezy Macbones, captured the WBO Africa light‑heavyweight championship when he outpointed Nigeria’s Godday Appah, nicknamed Zodsolo, in Lagos.
The bout took place on 1 October 2026 as part of Nigeria’s Independence Day festivities and was staged by the Balmoral Group, an event presented by Ezekiel Adamu.
Judges awarded Gyimah the victory by majority decision, ending Appah’s reign as champion after a tightly contested twelve‑round fight.
After the decision, a fellow Nigerian boxer issued a challenge for a December showdown, which Gyimah accepted, promising to meet his rival before the year ends.
Gyimah said he was stunned by his own performance in front of a largely hostile away crowd.
He reflected that he began serious boxing at 27, an age many thought too late for a career, and that winning the title proved doubters wrong.
The champion dedicated the triumph to supporters in Kumasi, Accra and the diaspora, thanking them for prayers and encouragement.
He also praised Ghana Armed Forces Boxing Team coach Naval Officer Bernard Nartey, whose confidence he said helped shape the victory.
