Fire Ravages Akweteyman Apartment, Destroys Family Possessions

A late-night fire consumed a three-room apartment in Akweteyman on 2026-10-01, leaving a family with total material loss.
Flames attacked a three-chamber-and-hall apartment in the Agbogbloshie‑adjacent community of Akweteyman on the night of October 1, 2026, turning the residents' home into a ruin. The Ghana National Fire Service recorded the alarm at 22:20 when the Legon Fire Station's control desk logged the incident, and crews reached the site only twenty minutes later. By the time they arrived, the blaze had already gutted the living space, consuming clothes, furniture, appliances and other household items before they could bring it under control at 23:20 and fully extinguish it at midnight. The fire did not spread beyond the unit; neighboring chambers‑and‑halls escaped with their contents intact, and no injuries were reported. Investigators from the Fire Service are still probing the source of the outbreak. Residents now face the daunting task of rebuilding their lives after possessions of irreplaceable value were reduced to ash, and the community has rallied with food and clothing donations to ease the burden. Police have cordoned off the area pending the outcome of the investigation, and the family intends to relocate temporarily while assessments continue.
