Fiifi Boafo Questions Delayed GH₵6,000 Cocoa Promise

Former COCOBOD chief Fiifi Boafo has publicly queried the government for postponing the promised GH₵6,000 per bag cocoa payment for the 2026/27 season, a promise he says was central to farmer morale and recruitment. Speaking in Accra he reminded officials that farmers have already planted for the current season and are now counting on swift reimbursement to restore confidence in the sector. The pressure comes as the agriculture fraternity remains skeptical of repeated assurances without concrete disbursement timelines. Boafo emphasized that any further hold‑up could erode the gains made in attracting new participants to cocoa farming and jeopardise the nation's export ambitions. He called on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to release the funds without further delay so that growers can receive the agreed compensation before the next harvest cycle. If the government fails to act promptly, he warned, farmer discontent may rise and could manifest in reduced planting enthusiasm, ultimately affecting Ghana's position as a leading cocoa producer.
