Emergency and Security Vehicles Avoid Speeding Tickets with New TraffiTech-GH System

TraffiTech-GH will exempt authorized emergency and security vehicles from speeding violations during official duties, easing pressure on responders.
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service announced that automated speed enforcement cameras under the new TraffiTech-GH system will not issue tickets to vehicles with official emergency or security designations traveling within their authorized operational roles. These include ambulance, police, and fire service units responding to incidents or conducting patrols, removing a key obstacle for first responders navigating congested urban roads.
Ghanaians working in critical sectors like healthcare and public safety will benefit directly from this measure. Hospital staff and firefighters often faced delays reaching emergencies due to lengthy appeals against automated speed tickets issued during urgent transit, draining vital response time. By legally protecting these vehicles during active duty, the system prioritizes national safety over punitive enforcement in high-stakes scenarios.
Implementation begins immediately as vehicles with valid exemption markers pass through speed cameras without penalty. No individual identification occurs – only the authorized status of the vehicle triggers the exemption. This targeted approach ensures genuine emergency services operate unimpeded while maintaining accountability for regular motorists on public roads.
